The profession as Examiner of Questioned Documents and Handwriting
and Fingerprint Expert was established by Mr.
G.S. Mumick, son of late Mr. Teja Singh who along with
his brother late Mr. Harnam Singh were bar-at -law, working
as leading lawyers at the city of Gujarat in Punjab, in 1926
at Lahore (now in Pakistan) after his special studies and training
in this line of work. He also did a course of study in the field
of Handwriting and Fingerprint Examination from International
Criminologist School, Seattle, USA, under the principal ship
of Mr. H.P. Wunderling.
He also worked initially for Punjab Police CID Department
as their expert.
He was also joined in this profession by his brother Mr.
Puran Singh Mamak who later on shifted to Penang, Alorstar,
Malaya, now known as Malaysia and remained in this profession.
Mr. G.S. Mumick had his office at 172, Anarkali, Lahore (now
in Pakistan) till the partition in 1947 and after that he shifted
over to Delhi and established his practice here. He remained
in active practice as Senior Expert with all round professional
work in Northern India till 1976, when he retired after being
in the profession for over 50 years.
